Victoriia Baibakova
BSc, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology → MSc, Skoltech → Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
Modern materials science is about chemistry and physics as much as about speed and relevance. The world needs new materials right now, and Skoltech teaches us to predict, model and synthesize them using advanced research techniques. We are doing this alongside top experts, and this is highly inspiring for research, so I have decided to pursue this goal in my PhD studies.
Oleg Zaitsev
BSc, Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology (MUCTR) → MSc, Skoltech → PhD, University of Bern
I was initially planning to continue my master's at MUCTR, but a spontaneous recommendation from my academic advisor just two weeks before Skoltech’s application deadline changed everything. At first, Skoltech seemed “too good to be true,” but once I joined the Materials Science program, I quickly realized how relevant and valuable the knowledge I was gaining was. Studying in English also opened the door to international opportunities, making it much easier to grow professionally abroad — something that would have been far more challenging without Skoltech.
Oyedamola Asiyanbola
BSc, Obafemi Awolowo University → MSc, Skoltech → PhD, Cambridge University
While at Skoltech, students were free to curate their course uptake as it may align with research interests and career goals. I was open to opportunities to discuss and interact with like-minded people in and outside academia during my Master's program in materials science. For me, the Skoltech learning experience was an embodiment of clear improvements on all frontiers of academic and research excellence.
Charles Belina
BSc, New York University → MSc, Skoltech → Consulting
I chose to study at Skoltech because it allowed me to receive a world-class education, while also experiencing life in a foreign country. Nowhere else could I live out my dream of living abroad in a cosmopolitan city like Moscow while studying at a top university. Skoltech encourages collaboration and team projects, teaches its students to make an impact, and this means that you learn how to create something that people can use.
Nikolay Ovsyannikov
BSc, Lomonosov Moscow State University → MSc, Skoltech → PhD, Skoltech
Skoltech was the place where I finally decided to build a career in science. Working alongside top-notch professors in a state-of-the-art lab means plenty of opportunities and strong motivation for break-through research. But research opportunities are not the only reason why I love Skoltech: its supportive community, amazing campus and exciting extracurricular activities make you a perfectly happy Phd student!
