The IoT & Next Generation Wireless Technology track develops the multidisciplinary skills required in the IoT industry. It makes a special emphasis on developing hands-on skills in the areas of IoT and the state-of-the-art Wireless Technologies (5G, 6G) which is highly relevant to the emerging field of Industry 4.0 and Next-Gen Mobile Communications. Track graduates will gain knowledge and engineering skills in sensing, data processing and communication.
Andrey Somov
Assistant Professor at the Skoltech Center for Computational and Data-Intensive Science and Engineering (CDISE), Deputy Head of the Center of Excellence NTI "Wireless Communication Technologies and IoT"
Why this track?
In the last decade, the Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm and Wireless Technologies (5G, 6G) have been increasingly conquering the minds of researchers and engineers. The idea of the IoT consists not only in providing the objects with the infrastructure for physical communication and data storage, but also in exchanging the data which can be (re)used by other (heterogeneous) objects and, therefore, making possible the development of new or already existing application with more potentialities.
Сonstruct IoT real applications and improve them through the use of smart technologies and leverage on sensed data
Deliver an IoT-based product from scratch, 'pitch and sell' it

Become a developer of next-gen wireless communication protocols and solutions, such as 6G and beyond
Devise solutions for industrial cases (transport, healthcare, agriculture etc.) using IoT
Main research areas and research groups:
Research areas:

  • Next Generation Communications
  • Coding theory and Digital Signal Processing
  • ML methods in communications
  • Industrial IoT and industrial data processing
  • Sensing and actuation in environmental/industrial/biomedical applications
  • Wearable sensing and wireless sensor networks
  • Embedded AI
  • Post-quantum (code-based) cryptography
  • Information Protection in Computer Systems and Networks
Program outcomes
What I like the most about IoT track is the quality of the courses and the skills I have developed so far. My favorite topics are those related to my background in telecommunications and electronics, such as Digital Signal Processing and Communication Technologies courses. I think that being part of this program and track has helped me to develop practical skills and to become aware of the newest technologies of the field.
Yoel Gomez Collado
Current student, MSc in Information Science & Technology, IoT Track
The 2-year program comprises of compulsory and recommended elective courses on the most important topics, a wide set of elective courses (depending on the research and professional needs of the student), components of entrepreneurship and innovation, research activity and 8 weeks of industry immersion.

Graduates of the program will be able to:
Design IoT products using various hardware and software
Solve data science problems using modern machine learning techniques
Devise solutions for industrial cases (transport, healthcare, agriculture etc.) using IoT
Design and deploy telecommunication networks for IoT use cases
Use sensors, sensing technologies, and embedded systems in the context of IoT
Apply the theory behind the IoT to construct real applications and improve them through the use of smart technologies
This track is also available in a network form with TUSUR (Tomsk), SUAI (St. Petersburg) and Bauman MSTU (Moscow).
