The Advanced Computing and Networks (ACN) track develops world-class professionals who specialize in an intersection of areas related to computer networks, design of complex distributed systems, data processing and analysis, and machine learning. During the studies, students will be able to collaborate with internationally recognized faculty and scientists of Skoltech and Lomonosov Moscow State University, as well as leading global experts in Big Data, complex distributed systems, machine learning, and IoT.

Why this track?
This track is designed for those who would like to become an expert in design, research and implementation of contemporary computer technologies in a variety of fields: Telecom, IT industry, FinTech, manufacturers of network equipment and software, public sector.

Successful Skoltech-MSU joint track graduates gain high level of expertise and get equipped with a wide range of practical and cutting-edge skills allowing them to become sought-after specialists on the labor market via such career paths as сloud architects, сloud system engineers, data scientists and data analysts, DevOps engineers, IoT and network specialists and administrators, who will:
Freely navigate in new technologies and solutions of IoT and Big Data market, and offer options for optimizing and improving the efficiency of network infrastructure

Understand the effect of the practical implementation of new technologies in modern distributed systems, cloud environments and data networks


Analyze the state of and develop solutions for modern distributed systems and wireless networks
Work both independently as well as lead a team of technical specialists


Program outcomes
The 2-year program comprises of compulsory and recommended elective courses on the most important topics, a wide set of elective courses (depending on the research and professional needs of the student), components of entrepreneurship and innovation, research activity and 8 weeks of industry immersion.

Graduates of the program will:
Set up OpenStack, write apps for SDN controller, and configure Docker
Manage services in multi-protocol networks
Master programming skills on Python, C/C++, and Scala
Manage services in multi-protocol networks
Devise models for distributed systems and computer networks
Apply state-of-the-art network solutions currently used in giants like Amazon, AT&T, Microsoft, Google, or Yandex
This track is organized in a network form with Lomonosov Moscow State University (Moscow).

How to apply
ACN is a multidisciplinary area of study. This track will be great for graduates with the following qualifications:
Education: IT related bachelor's degree or its equivalent in Computer Science/Applied Mathematics/Information & Communication Technology/Computer Technology or other technical area.
Skills: Calculus, Differential equations and numerical methods, Linear algebra, Basic probability and statistics, Optimization, Discrete mathematics. Basic knowledge of programming (Python, C/C++) is highly recommended. High level of English proficiency.
In order to be admitted to the Advanced Computing and Networks track, applicants will need to apply to the Internet of Things and Wireless Technologies Master's program at Skoltech and MSU. All application stages for Skoltech can be completed online except for the final in-person interview:

Online test
Every candidate must take an online subject test. You will be notified by email about the specific date and time of your test after you submit your application.

Selection Days
The final admission stage will take place online. You will need to pass a face-to-face interview, a soft skills challenge and an online Math exam.

Admission decision
1-2 weeks after the Selection days, you should receive an email about your admission decision.
*Since this is a network program with MSU, you will also need to complete all application stages for MSU:

  1. All applicants: complete the online application
  2. Foreign applicants: follow the MSU application procedure for international applicants. Then, submit this application to asvk@cs.msu.ru.
