The devastating effects of climate change and limited fossil fuel reserves have become an apparent problem in the last 15 years. This sparked the creation of new technologies like renewable generation, distributed generations, storage facilities, and electric vehicles, all of which require high-powered research, industrial developments and people specialising in energy systems. The specialists working on these solutions must understand and apply today's digital tools to create efficient and effective instruments.
Skoltech's (TOP-100 Young Universities 2019 Nature Index) Master's program in Energy Systems is an interdisciplinary educational track at Skoltech with a focus on Power Systems Control and Optimization, Smart Grids, Energy Conversion, Power Electronics and Energy Markets. The broad educational program builds upon core and target area courses taught by faculty members of Center for Energy Science and Technology and elective courses delivered by members of other CREIs including Center for Computational and Data-Intensive Science and Engineering (CDISE) and Skoltech's Space Center (SSC).

What our students say
Maria Goldstein
BSc, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology → MSc, Skoltech → Be Close (startup)
Skoltech time was the most effective and productive for me, because the program is aimed at practical skills as well as theoretical ones. Moreover, all the people are highly motivated and active there so you have no chance to get bored. I think that the most significant example for me was that I stayed at the university till 2 am being eager to perfectly complete all the homework assignments because they were so interesting. Skoltech took me back to the scientific area I liked and I was ready to discuss energy systems topics all the time :) I got so much knowledge at Skoltech I still use. I totally recommend this university. It combines the perfect way of studying with a lot of talented people.
Maxim Parshin
BSc, Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University → MSc, Skoltech → ABB
As a student of the Energy Systems program, I was able to get unique knowledge in different fields of the energy industry, to learn advanced solutions in power converter equipment and renewable energy sources, to familiarize myself with modern tools of efficient management and planning of energy systems. But one of the key achievements was the significant improvement of my English relating to the energy sector, which now significantly facilitates my collaboration with foreign colleagues. Skoltech provides the opportunity for students to develop their most challenging ideas, provided that the latter are truly relevant in the world scientific community.

BSc, University of Ibadan → MSc, Skoltech → PhD, Skoltech
Studying Energy Systems in Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology puts you at a distinct advantage. You're exposed to new and cutting-edge research methodologies while being taught by seasoned and respected professors and research scientists who are at the top of their discipline. At the end of your MS program you will have a big challenge of choice. It will not be about "what to do next" but which of the various open paths you should pursue.
Nina Kharlamova
BSc, Ural Federal University → MSc, Skoltech → PhD, Technical University of Denmark
Skoltech and the Energy Systems program became a great school of life for me because I was challenged in many ways. I have learned not to rely on the first impression, since from the very beginning it was breaking stereotypes about higher education.

Skoltech gives you skills that are very useful, and, yet, hard to obtain. For instance, the course of Prof. Ouerdane within the Energy Systems program has not only given me valuable insights into how to conduct research, but also showed served as an example of a professor who truly cares for students and supports them if they need help. My Skoltech experience and the Energy Systems program in particular allowed me to become competitive on the job market and develop standards of work culture and teamwork.
Dmitry Kryukov
BSc, Novosibirsk State Technical University → MSc, Skoltech → PhD, Skoltech
Studying on the Energy Systems program gives you a significant degree of freedom in choosing what exactly you want to do. This is especially true for the choice of courses. You are not limited to just the thermodynamic or electrical applications of your knowledge, but you can afford to delve deeper into mathematics, fundamental physics, or even economics. In other words, everything that constitutes the essence of the concept of Energy can become the topic of your research. Of course, everything depends on you, but if you want to fully unleash your potential, then Energy Systems is your choice.
